Open Access Policy

JACSI is a Diamond Open Access journal. This means:

  • No Article Processing Charges (APCs): Authors are never charged for submission, peer review, or publication
  • No subscription fees: All content is freely available to all readers worldwide
  • No registration required: Full-text articles are accessible without login or account creation
  • No embargo period: Articles are freely available immediately upon publication
  • Permanent access: All published content remains freely accessible in perpetuity

Definition of Open Access

JACSI adheres to the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access:

> "By 'open access' to peer-reviewed research literature, we mean its free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself."

Licensing

All articles published in JACSI are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC-BY-4.0).

This license permits:

  • Sharing: Copying and redistributing the material in any medium or format
  • Adapting: Remixing, transforming, and building upon the material for any purpose, including commercially

Under the following terms:

  • Attribution: Appropriate credit must be given, a link to the license provided, and any changes indicated

Copyright

Authors retain copyright of their work. By publishing in JACSI, authors grant the journal a non-exclusive right to publish and distribute the article under the CC-BY-4.0 license.

Funding Model

JACSI operates without revenue from authors or readers. The journal is sustained through:

  • Volunteer editorial labor
  • Institutional support from David Tom Foss (UK)
  • In-kind contributions (hosting, infrastructure)
  • Grant funding where available

JACSI has no commercial interests that could influence editorial decisions.

JACSI's open access policy complies with:

  • Plan S (cOAlition S) requirements for immediate open access
  • Horizon Europe open access mandate for funded research
  • COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) transparency principles

Machine-Readable Access

  • All articles include metadata in Highwire Press format for Google Scholar indexing
  • DOIs are registered with Crossref for persistent identification
  • Full metadata is available via Crossref REST API and OAI-PMH
  • Articles are deposited in OpenAIRE for Horizon Europe compliance
